Educare West DuPage Announces New Executive Director

(West Chicago, IL) The Board of Directors of Educare West DuPage, chaired by Paul Weinewuth unanimously approved the hire of Michelle Esquivel in October and she has started in the role of Executive Director.
Michelle Esquivel brings nearly 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience and a track record of success building programs and raising funds in service of youth both locally and nationwide. Ms. Esquivel came to Educare West DuPage after serving nine years as Director, Division of Children with Special Health Care Needs at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), an organization of 67,000 pediatricians committed to the optimal physical, mental and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Prior to that role, she spent seven years building the Illinois Chapter of the AAP as its Associate Executive Director.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Esquivel served in a variety of different roles related to maternal and children’s health at organizations like MEDEM, Inc and The HELP Network. She obtained a Master's of Public Health from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue the great work underway at Educare West DuPage,” stated Ms. Esquivel. “Engaging in the implementation of solutionsoriented activities to address the challenges of education inequality and suburban poverty will be a primary focus during my tenure as executive director. Michelle joins Educare West DuPage upon the recent retirement of Jeannie Matula. Jeannie has served Educare and been a leader in the Educare Learning Network for five years, coming to the school after it had been open for one year.
